The many meanings of ‘ratio’...

…relationship

The relationship between two entities, indicating how many times the first contains the second. The ratio may be of any kind, such as counts of people or objects, or such as lengths, weights, time, money, success, etc. In its core it stands for relations. By nature humans prefer a „good“ ratio, i.e. well-balanced proportions or relationships.

Our goal is to help organizations in building and maintaining relationships between stakeholders, businesses, countries and minds. Our connected world and peace itself are built upon good relations. They are the engine for success in economy and well-being in society.

…rationality

Rationality stands for making sense, yielding reason.  It means applying sane thinking and hard facts to find the most useful result or method for achieving a goal. Rationalization, for instance, simply means gaining efficiency in relevant tasks of an organization by profund research and balancing all facts.

Digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI) and business process analysis/reengineering are typical examples. It is an – albeit popular – overstatement to equate this with eliminating jobs. The contrary is true: Rationalization is an excellent approach to strengthen an organization and make jobs fit for the future.

…method

Ratio is a method of the brain, way of conscious thinking as opposed to purely intuitive action. A well-balanced, rational thought process takes a broader management view to  produce best results.
It combines emotional, subconscious perception with facts-based logic. This will reduce risks and weigh in more parameters than any offhanded, old-style management decisions. It transparently arrives at well-balanced results with a higher rate of success.

The guiding metric is “common sense”, i.e. not following any ideologies blindly but fresh thinking. It also means reasonable acting and considering the real conditions and goals. The focal point is always on the human beings – the customers, employees, stakeholders.

The right ratio

According to Leonardo da Vinci, the so-called ‚golden section’ provides the ‚beautiful’ proportions that most humans find attractive. It is easy to find the golden cut: Simply make the ratio between two sections of a line equal to the ratio between the larger part and the whole. Numbers which approximate the ratio of the ‚golden cut’ are for example 3:5:8 or 8:13:21 or 38.2% to 61.8 % to 100%.

Architects, photographers and power point masters as well as team coaches and management trainers often apply this rule – consciously or not – to find the ‘human’ sweet spot.
